A Foot in the Chiltern’s Walks

Corona virus – you are welcome to walk with us as long as you are feeling well and not showing any signs of Coronavirus. Walking outdoors boosts the immune system and maintaining fitness levels as part of a healthier lifestyle may help to avoid winter illnesses. We encourage all walkers to social distance and adhere to current Government guidelines.

All Day Walks

Walks may be all day taking in the beautiful scenery from beech woods and bluebells to hilltops or riverside. They can be planned to visit monuments, events, or to watch wildlife and enjoy hedgerows and native plants. Through discussion about your interests and fitness levels I aim to plan a walk that exceeds your expectations. Having lived in the area for many years I have a thorough knowledge of the footpaths and bridleways and as I walk regularly in the area I maintain an awareness of changes in the local countryside be it nesting red kites or a field of cowslips.

You may want to walk a section of one of the long distance paths such as the Ridgeway, Thames path or Oxfordshire way. There are many long distance paths in the area. Each with their own character.

Henley on Thames is a market town steeped in history and there are many curios and relics from the past and many modern events such as the Henley Festival. Some of the local churches host classical music concerts and the area has many country houses and historical buildings all within walking distance.

Nordic Walking

As a NWUK delivery partner I am able to deliver the Learn to Nordic Walk course to those who are new to this form of exercise. For experienced walkers the Chilterns offers a wealth of beautiful walks to suit all fitness levels.
Nordic walking is suitable for many people experiencing mobility problems and can greatly assist in rehab and confidence building as well as maintaining muscle power and aiding general functional ability. As an occupational therapist I am able to tailor walks or nordic walking to your needs and enable you to enjoy the benefits of the outdoors again.

One Way Walks

I can arrange walks where you are taken to the start and we walk back to your car or another designated place. This allows you to cover a greater area and take in even more of the Chilterns. It may be making use of one of the long distance paths such as the Oxfordshire Way or Thames path or a bespoke route incorporating those places or events that are of particular interest to you. These walks can also be arranged for experienced Nordic Walkers.

Pub Walks

We are spoilt for choice with a large number of country pubs, cafes and restaurants in the area to suit all tastes and budgets. They range from traditional pubs and National Trust tea rooms to modern purpose built cafes and restaurants. Walks can be all day incorporating a visit to more than one pub or a walk to the place of your choice.  Many of the local churches and open gardens serve home made teas during the summer months and can be a welcome break during a walk.

Short Walks

Walks can be designed for any distance or time duration and can be level, with easy walking surface or steep and hilly with narrow footpaths.

Midsomer Murders walking tours of Henley on Thames incorporating many of Inspector Baranaby’s haunts and learning about the history of this beautiful riverside town.

If you are new to walking and want to gradually build confidence and fitness or are recovering from injury or illness a shorter level walk may be appropriate. Even short walks can incorporate exceptional views and special events such as regattas or village fetes, churches, museums and festivals.

Wheelchair accessible routes are available – if you have difficulty getting out as your carer is unable to manage your manual wheelchair over distance consider booking a walk where I can push you and your carer can have a break either joining the walk or having time to themselves. You will need to provide your own chair which should be in a serviceable condition.
